Discount Glass & Mirror in San Diego expanded their premises and wanted a sustainable solution for a short access lane and overflow parking. The access road needed to handle heavy equipment and machinery, while maintaining the pre developmental site hydrology. Stormwater management was another reason why Ecoraster was chosen. It allowed for the infiltration of water runoff to permeate into the ground, and avoid the storm drains, which weren’t holding up to San Diego’s El Nino.
The Ecoraster E40 was used in this project. The road portion of the Ecoraster E40 was filled with 3/4 aggregate and the sloped portion was filled with topsoil and seeded. The grass area will provide additional overflow parking, as well as erosion control.
Pictured below is the ground before grading.
After grading, 3/4 clear cut aggregate was added and leveled. (6 inch base)
Ecoraster E40 was then placed on top of the aggregate base.
After filling with 3/4 aggregate, a roller than compacted it.
This is the graded area to be used as a grass overflow parking area.
Ecoraster was then placed on top of the ground, and is now ready to be filled with topsoil.
